Summer officially begins in June, and many cities and towns honor the occasion with festivals and gatherings. Whether visitors want to spend June at the beach or in the city, there are plenty of options on this list to meet everyone’s needs.
Because the children are out of school, many families travel at this time of year, and choosing the right place is the first step toward a wonderful vacation. Certain attractions may be closed temporarily or need reservations in advance. Currently, some eateries only provide pickup.
It’s possible that the hours and availability have changed. June is one of the nicest months to visit, with long days, a bright blue sky, and hours of unending sunlight.
This is the time of year when everything comes alive and everyone is eager for a good time. Here are some of the best places to visit and explore in June, ranging from fashionable city getaways to beautiful seaside communities.
Kansas City
Kansas City, Missouri, is located on the western end of the state, along the border with Kansas. It is well-known for its BBQ, jazz tradition, and fountains, among other things. It is located in the famous 18th & Vine Jazz District, where it shares a building with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which is also located downtown.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which is distinguished by the presence of huge shuttlecocks in front of the building, displays almost 40,000 pieces of art ranging from ancient to current periods. A beautiful place to visit in the month of June and the perfect time to check out some hiking trails in warm weather.
There is also a ton of special events and romantic parks in the city for people to check out. The city centers have fewer tourists at the beginning of summer, later on in the summer months, more tourists appear.
Glacier National Park
The most popular months to visit this well-loved national park are July and August, making June the best time to go. Because of the harsh winters in Montana, most of the state remains inaccessible until the snow and ice melt away.
While certain areas of the park (such as Going-to-the-Sun Road) are still not totally open by June, the vast bulk of it is open and ready for visitors by this time. Here’s where you can find out how the roads are doing.
The weather in June is also ideal for trekking since it is neither too hot nor too chilly. You’ll be able to float down the whole length of the rivers, as well as cycle! June is also a far more economical time to visit Glacier National Park than later in the summer, owing to the lower cost of accommodation compared to later in the summer.

Charleston, South Carolina
But, wait, isn’t Charleston lovely at any time of year? Sure, why not? June, on the other hand, is exceptionally wonderful. The Charleston Rum Festival and Carifest Caribbean Carnival bring the city to life with celebrations that are distinctive to the city.
In addition, the city holds a massive Juneteenth Freedom Celebration, which honors the city’s Black history and culture. Take advantage of the warmer temperatures in June by wandering around the Battery neighborhood to admire the colorful homes on Rainbow Row.

Block Island, Rhode Island
A great destination for a sea vacation. Look no further if you’re looking for a peaceful island escape. Block Island is a little village off the coast of Rhode Island that offers everything a New England beach should have, but without the crowds and hustle.
The majority of Block Island’s activities and restaurants are seasonal, opening around the end of May. June, like many of the other destinations on our list, is the perfect time to take advantage of openings before the summer throngs arrive in July and August. Live music performances by local bands, community activities, and culinary festivals will all be available beginning in June.
On Block Island, there are several possibilities to go out on the water, with Pond & Beyond’s Full Moon kayak excursion being one of the most popular. They also offer kayak rides at sunset and dawn! This place is also enjoyable at the end of June due to the warm waters and serene beaches. There are also occasional food festivals which make this a great place to tickle your tasting buds.
San Diego, USA
An oceanside vacation is the ideal June getaway, and San Diego has a variety of events throughout the month to keep guests amused. The San Diego Brew and Food Festival, a one-day event featuring over 200 specialty and seasonally brewed beers, start off the month.
As the month progresses, the Oyster Fest, which takes place in the middle of June every year and attracts large crowds due to its local seafood, music, beer, and bayside vistas, approaches.
San Diego does not ignore the summer solstice, but rather commemorates it with a parade and a modest celebration. As the month comes to a close, visitors will want to check out the OB Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off Festival, which has been operating for over 35 years and attracts audiences of over 50,000 people.
Cape Cod
Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a favorite East Coast weekend vacation destination for good reason. Beautiful beaches, vibrant sunsets, wedding venues, restaurants, a broad range of outdoor activities, picture-perfect lighthouses, and distinctive historic sights are all within an hour’s drive of Boston, Massachusetts.
Families may relax in the sun, play in the water, and eat fresh seafood harvested in the surrounding seas at kid-friendly bays. On your weekend break or a day trip to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, these are the top things to do.

If you’re searching for a holiday spot in June, this is a wonderful seaside town with clear waves, exquisite beaches, and a great trail system. Laguna Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area.
The moderate temperature, rolling hills, and sandy beaches make this delightful town accessible all year. Laguna Beach is best visited from early June to mid-September, when the yearly daytime temperature averages approximately 24 degrees, the seas are great for swimming, and the town is alive with the Summer Arts Festival.
Laguna Beach provides for a fantastic coastal vacation in Southern California, whether you stumble across blossoming wildflowers or watch the gorgeous canyons.
Anchorage, Alaska
Can’t seem to get enough of the summer sun? In June, go to Alaska, which boasts the most daylight hours of any state. In fact, June 21st is Anchorage’s longest day of the year, with 19 hours of daylight! With all of that light, you can truly appreciate all that Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city, has to offer. This mountain town has a lot of things to offer.
Hike the lower-elevation paths surrounding town, where the tundra has melted and flooded the rivers and streams to overflowing. June is also an excellent time to watch wildlife, as many animals have emerged from their winter hibernation. During this time of year, humpback whales, orcas, and moose are all migrating. The Summer Solstice Festival takes place in Anchorage in mid-June.
The Anchorage Market & Festival, which takes place every Saturday from May through September, is another option. Honorable mentions here include Virginia beach if you seek swimming and surfing.
Portland, Maine
In the summer, this charming New England village is a delight. Warm weather and moderate rainfall characterize June, making it an ideal month for strolling around the streets and enjoying the outdoors.
Because of the exceptionally minimal rainfall in June, the town holds the majority of its outdoor festivities during this month.
In mid-June, the town conducts its annual Wine Week, so if you’re a wine lover, this is the vacation for you. Portland is also renowned for its excellent seafood, so try one of the city’s famed lobster rolls while you’re there. Check out Cape May, Bodega Bay or the Portland rose festival.
