Chelsea & Greenwich Village
For second-time visitors, this is the place to go. If you’ve been to New York before, have seen the major landmarks, and now want to immerse yourself more in New York life, Chelsea and Greenwich Village are the locations to stay. They’re also a terrific choice if you don’t want to stay in touristy regions and instead want to get a real taste of New York living.
Greenwich Village is the art district, and it’s bustling with activity, much like Chelsea. You could spend hours in Washington Square simply listening to street performers and watching passers-by and not get bored. You may also take a walk around New York’s tiny, winding streets and appreciate the city’s unique sandstone structures, or dine at one of the numerous lovely little eateries.
There are many outstanding comedy clubs in Greenwich Village, and you should go to at least one of them. If you like jazz bars, the Village is a must-visit destination. If you like posh nightclubs, the Meatpacking District, which is also located in this area of town, has a number of them. There are also major sights in the south as the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and so on.
Long Island City Queens
Next, we’ll go to Queens, especially Long Island City (LIC), a hip and underappreciated neighborhood in New York City that’s ideal for budget travelers! This neighborhood is very close to Midtown (across the East River from it, 15 minutes by public transportation to Times Square to be exact), which we believe is a huge advantage because you’ll be able to avoid the high hotel fees in the center while still being close to all of the important landmarks!
If you’re seeking inexpensive housing in New York, Queens is the place to go. You’ll get a lot more bang for your buck and won’t have to pay more than $200 for a hotel. We picked Queens as our preferred neighborhood outside of Manhattan since it’s just a short train journey from there to Midtown (about 15 minutes). It also offers several really beautiful hotels at reasonable prices.
If you don’t mind riding the subway every day from Queens to Manhattan and want more bang for your money, Queens is the place to go. You can also check out the Guggenheim Museum or the Hotel Central Park, to get the full experience of the city of New York.
Midtown
One of the best areas and best neighborhoods for first-time visitors. If you’re visiting New York for the first time and want to see as many things as possible in as little time as possible while avoiding lengthy transport times, Midtown is the place to stay.
For around 90% of New York tourists, this area is ideal. Midtown is not only the most popular neighborhood for hotel searches, but it also has the most hotels at every price level. If you stay in a hotel here, you will see major sights from your ceiling windows.
Many of the city’s most significant and iconic landmarks are within walking distance, including 5th Avenue, Times Square, Broadway theaters, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, and the Empire State Building. There is also Midtown South close to the financial district which is full of luxury hotels.
We recommend using the subway station to the nearest five-star hotel, or other apartments and budget hotels. Additionally checks out awesome street musicians all around NY. If you pay the mid-range hotel tax of a comprehensive guide, your experience will be even better.
Midtown is a great place to start seeing the city on foot since it is well linked to the rest of the city. All of the main subway lines pass through Midtown, making getting to any other station in the city a breeze. To put it another way, it’s perfect!
Soho & Lower East Side
If you’ve already seen the major landmarks in New York and want to see how people live in other sections of the city, Soho and the Lower East Side are the places to stay. Both neighborhoods are painfully cool. Soho is a neighborhood in New York City that borders Greenwich Village to the south and is famed for its gorgeous cast-iron structures and many art and design stores.
The Lower East Side, like Soho, is a typical New York residential area. As a result, you won’t find any world-famous attractions here. Instead, both areas provide an immensely diversified street scene, as well as a mix of super-trendy eateries and stores in a variety of pricing levels.
The nicest thing about the neighborhoods is that they allow you to walk to many different sections of the city. You won’t find yourself so engrossed in the streets of New York anywhere else. Little Italy, the Bowery, and Chinatown are all within walking distance.
New Jersey
New Jersey is a separate state, yet it is situated just over the Hudson River from Manhattan. Jersey City is just over the Hudson River from Manhattan, and the hotels along the river provide a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline. The hotel charges, however, are not lower than in Manhattan, just because you can get there quickly via tube.
If you really want to save money, you should check out Newark motels. If it is your first visit, the best things to do include a 10-minute walk to the nearest coffee shops in the small area or to check out some of the famous NY street food. If you find a mid-budget hotel you won’t have the extra cost to pay for food.
Because Newark is a bit farther out, they don’t have a view of Manhattan, yet a nice room costs between 120 and 170 dollars. You should certainly reserve a hotel near Penn Station in Newark. The red PATH Train Line will take you to the World Trade Center in 22 minutes. The cost of a one-way ticket is $2.75. (approximately 3,20 euros).
