You can take your favorite music with you everywhere you go with a nice portable Bluetooth speaker. There are various speakers to select from on the market right now, whether you’re searching for a portable Bluetooth speaker to take with you to the beach, park, backyard, or even other areas of your house.
You’ll want a speaker with long battery life and a solid build, as well as an IP certification for water resistance, so it can handle being wet when you take it outdoors. Smaller speakers, on the other hand, are more likely to struggle to become loud and generate a thumpy low bass.
JBL Flip
The JBL Flip 6 is a great example of a Bluetooth speaker that gets it right by sticking to the fundamentals. This tough portable speaker is easy to use, sounds great, and can be linked with up to 100 other JBL speakers to form a massive sound wall.
Voice assistants and Wi-Fi connections aren’t included, but the Flip 6 sounds so excellent that you won’t miss them. While the trebles might sound a touch harsh at higher levels, there’s plenty of clarity and detail.
This speaker is excellent for taking to the pool or beach, with 12-hour battery life and water and dustproof, and it comes in a variety of vibrant colors. It’s a pity there’s no port for charging your phone, but that’s a minor quibble.
The Flip 6 is a great speaker for anybody who wants to just play their music, turn it up high, sit back, and enjoy – whether they’re listening at home or on the move, like the JBL Flip 5.
JBL Boombox 2
JBL Boombox 2 provides tremendous bass, striking design, and up to 24 hours of playtime to anything from backyard barbecues to weekend road excursions. This strong speaker, which is IPX7 waterproof and portable, produces tremendous sound all day and night. You may also connect additional JBL PartyBoost-compatible speakers to amp up the party.
The JBL Boombox 2 is a good music player. Although it lacks some low-bass, the mid and treble registers are well-balanced, allowing voices and lead instruments to be effectively reproduced.
Although there are some compression artifacts evident at maximum volume, they can reach fairly loud. One of the best Bluetooth speakers, compared to the bose soundlink flex and its stereo sound and sound quality. This smart speaker has an awesome audio quality similar to the Amazon Alexa and the bose portable smart which is always used for a patio party.
JBL Xtreme 3
The JBL Xtreme 3 is a flexible, competent wireless speaker that is as at home lounging at home as it is at a party. Yes, it’s tough, IP67 dust- and waterproof-certified, and you’d be excused for thinking it’s more concerned with the quantity of bass it produces than musical quality at first appearance.
But be assured: from the lowest of lows to the greatest of highs, the JBL Xtreme 3 proves to be a thoughtful and sensitive performer. Bassheads will be more than delighted with the ample low-end punch on offer, but there is also quality. The size range is similar to the soundboks gen and ue wonderboom which is a powerful portable good choice with plenty of good options and awesome app support combined with good looks. It also has google assistant integrated.
JBL Charge 4
Not only is this one of the best-sounding Bluetooth speakers on the market at this price point, but it also offers a massive 20 hours of music on a single charge, and the prices are likely to be cut due to the introduction of a younger brother. Intriguing.
JBL tweaked the sound in this version to suit even more discerning ears. Obviously, a speaker of this size has a bass floor limit, but the low-end is tasteful – and there’s plenty of power.
You also get a lot of features for your money. The Charge 4’s IPX7 water resistance allows it to be immersed in water up to 1.5 meters deep. Unlike the Flip 5 (seen above), the Charge 4 may also be used to charge your phone – or any other device that can be charged through USB from a 5V source.
Although the Flip 5 is less expensive and lighter, the Charge 4’s durable build, long battery life, and ‘battery sharing’ make it a near-perfect speaker for camping, beach excursions, and home usage.
JBL Charge 5
The JBL Charge 5 is significantly more robust and has a greater sound than the previous four Charges. The Charge 5’s predecessor had an IPX7 certification, which meant it could be immersed in water to a depth of 1.5m, but the IP67-rated Charge 5 adds dust resistance to that resilience. Want a speaker the size of a bottle of wine that can charge your phone while still sounding great? You’ve discovered it.
The Charge 5 presently has the best sound in a portable Bluetooth speaker design for around £200 ($200, AU$300), thanks to a new 10W tweeter and racetrack-shaped driver. It has slight acoustic and cosmetic enhancements over its predecessor, the five-star Charge 4. (below).
JBL may one day manufacture a Charge that can be surpassed by a fresh and daring competitor, but that hasn’t occurred with the Charge 5 (which won the What Hi-Fi? 2021 Award). You won’t go through too much effort using the JBL portable app which allows the biggest sound in full volume thanks to the SBC Bluetooth smart features. It is definitely better than on some rugged speakers.
Soundlink Micro
The Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker in midnight blue with a black strap combines wireless music streaming with mobility. With its 40mm driver and two passive radiators, this speaker connects to devices through Bluetooth 4.2 and provides helpful voice instructions, allowing you to stream your favorite music.
The SoundLink series is the brand name for Bose Corporation’s portable audio equipment. These battery-powered wireless speaker systems stream audio from a different source device through a wireless link (such as a computer or smartphone). Although it has a lower IP rating than some high end speakers, the common rating of the heavy build soundlink micro is real. All in all a great addition for a poplar cabinet and for people who always carry a backpack.
Sonos Roam
The Roam has hands-free voice controls, Apple AirPlay 2, wireless charging, and a durable design that allows it to be used almost anywhere. This speaker has a lot riding on it; Sonos only launches a few new items every year, so they all have to perform.
It can broadcast music from other speakers on your home wifi network to it through Bluetooth. However, just holding the play/pause button on the Roam may make a quick group with your closest Sonos speakers or transfer music to or from them. It works like a charm. This is a great room filler.
Anker Soundcore Flare 2
360° Immersive Sound is a Bluetooth speaker that delivers powerful 360° bass-driven sounds. BassUp technology combines dual drivers and passive radiators to create a portable party with 20W of powerful sound.
The Flare 2 is charged using USB-C. The microphone capabilities of the Soundcore Flare 2 were not advertised, and properly so. The microphone, I believe, is located near the Soundcore logo. Unless you are speaking directly to the speaker, the microphone is useless.
Tribit Stormbox Micro 2

The Tribit StormBox Micro is a 9-watt speaker, thus it’s on the lower end of the power spectrum. The $50 Tribit StormBox Micro Bluetooth speaker has a lot to offer for a little speaker. It’s completely waterproof, has a tear-resistant strap built-in, and can be used as a speakerphone.
Ultimate Ears Hyperboom
Hyperboom produces a gigantic blast no matter where you take it, owing to a built-in microphone that detects movement. The adaptive EQ analyzes the room (or patio, or rooftop) and adjusts the sound balance until it’s just right.
The Hyperboom’s specifications are likely to amaze you even before you hear it. The phone has a 24-hour battery life, a decibel level of 100 (loud enough to feel Kendrick Lamar’s bass lines in your pinky toes), and an IPX4 water-resistant classification.
