Fermenter

An extensive fermentation-heavy menu, including koji, smoked tempeh BBQ sandwiches, cultured hazelnut kefir cheese spreads, and an astonishing selection of sauerkraut can be found at Belmont’s “friendly neighborhood beneficial bacteria emporium.”

They are reminiscent of the inventive vegetable plates with thoughtfully layered ingredients such as purple Napa cabbage, pickled apples, and kombucha-braised watermelon radish, dressed in celeriac buttermilk and sprinkled with hazelnut crumble that were previously available at the now-defunct Farm Spirit restaurant in the neighborhood.

In addition to fermented food, cooking gadgets, and hands-on lessons, Fermenter Workshop will also provide a variety of other services. They have a food cart sometimes going through the city. Honorable mentions here include Food Fight, Rabbits cafe, and Stumptown coffee in Southeast Portland.

The Sudra

The Sudra, a long-time favorite in the Portland food scene, is by no means a traditional Indian restaurant; rather, it serves creative vegan Indian fare with Southwestern influences, a nod to Sanjay Chandrasekaran’s heritage and experiences in New Mexico. The Sudra is a long-standing favorite in the Portland food scene.

A thali of lentil kofta and jackfruit vindaloo, as well as other dishes such as black-eyed pea korma, red lentil tamarind stew, coconut yogurt, and pickles, is the ideal way to savor the classics throughout the years. The Sudra is located in four locations: Mississippi, 28th Avenue, Pearl, and Beaverton, to name a few examples. Rabbit’s Cafe, Chandrasekaran’s bowl and smoothie cafe, is already operating downtown and will shortly operate on Killingsworth Avenue in the future.

Boxcar Pizza

Boxcar Pizza, housed inside The Zipper, is Portland’s first all-vegan Detroit-style pizza and is open daily. Boxcar, Odie O’Connor’s first pizza concept, is a departure from Baby Blue’s wood-fired sourdough pies.

It features a spongy, golden brown, thick crust loaded with coconut-based mozzarella and topped with everything from marinated “steak” with roasted tomatoes and house-made chimichurri to buffalo “chicken” with generous dollops of dairy-free blue cheese.

Weekly specials, such as the outrageous mac and cheese pie with seitan bacon, are publicized on the restaurant’s Instagram page. The second location where you can get pizza and vegan burgers are Whole Bowl. Additionally, try curry plate and pisco sours.

Jade Rabbit

The Jade Rabbit, formerly known as Ichiza Kitchen, offers a diverse selection of East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines that reflect chef Cyrus Ichiza’s multi-cultural background. As of the time of this writing, the menu is only available for pickup and delivery at the Hawthorne location.

Meatless versions of traditional dim sum, such as siu mai with vegan shrimp and tapioca roe, and entrees, such as the Fiery Wind slow-cooked noodle soup, which is served with extra meaty, fermented soy chicken, are among the menu’s standout dishes. Mock meats by the pound are available for purchase, as are jars of homemade chili oil, frozen Filipino adobo stew, and pre-made chili oil.

Miami Nice

Being from Mississippi, Alkebulan Moroski offers a completely vegan Southern comfort foods menu that is based on tangy barbecue ribs and crispy-fried chicken made from hand-made seitan that has been precisely created to look and taste just like real chicken or turkey.

Mac & cheese, fried okra, sour cream, and onion mashed potatoes are just a few of the mouthwatering sides available on a rotating basis, all of which are just as excellent as the meats. In addition to its renowned fried chicken, braised greens, and cornbread mix, Dirty Lettuce has begun providing its packaged items for countrywide shipment since establishing a physical and mortar location on Fremont.

Obon Shokudo

Before launching its restaurant on Grand Avenue, Obon Shokudo had popularity selling its products at farmers markets. Humiko Hozumi and Jason Duffany are known for their vegan Japanese homestyle dishes, such as curry kabocha squash korokke and kenchinjiru miso vegetable stew, among others.

Onigiri come in a variety of flavors, ranging from ginger pistachio miso to umeboshi pickled plum, and each one is distinct. Its Japanese curry, cooked with spices and veggies, is one of the restaurant’s best-known dishes. It is served with sprouted brown rice and panko-breaded tofu katsu, among other things. Vegans and non-vegans alike have been impressed by the shifting menu of comfort foods at Plant Based Papi, which ranges from broccoli-cashew cheddar soup in a bread bowl to crispy jackfruit “chicken” tacos drizzled with agave and jalapeo crème, since the restaurant’s pop-up phase.

Furthermore, Fortune’s bar selection is entirely vegan, including standout cocktails such as the fruity Luck of Lucien and the smokey Condessa Shuffle. An honorable mention is Vegan Haven which has one of the best veggie food menus and people’s favorite flavors in Portland Oregon. It is close to the vegan cheese shop and the local tattoo shop.

Doe Donuts

sweet donuts with cream

Portland is home to a slew of doughnut businesses, but this is the only vegan-only doughnut store in the city, and it also serves as a vegan ice cream shop on the weekends. Unique tastes like the earl grey-based Portland fog and blueberry pancake old-fashioned can always be found at Doe Donuts, which is located in downtown Portland.

When it comes to the changing menu, one savory dish such as morning scramble or jackfruit carnitas doughnuts is always included for individuals who do not have a sweet desire. Doe also offers seasonal flavors like tahini black sesame and tahini white sesame, in addition to typical scoops and soft serve swirls.
