Planetfirst. Earth as our priority. New life under a meaningful change in environmental rules. Imagine using ocean plastic to develop something brand new. Smart isn’t it? Sustainable development goals are very important. It is all about renewable sources these days.
Renewable energy usage reaches new heights in record time thanks to advanced technology. The Europe and China Agreement was adopted, with the goal of keeping global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Following a rise in extreme weather occurrences throughout the world, ranging from anomalous temperatures to droughts and typhoons, nations around the world concluded that low-carbon models were required.
Frontier tech manufacturers and Samsung Electronics have been inventing sustainable strategies to adapt to climate change across all facets of their business activities in order to help to address this global catastrophe.
Continue reading to discover more about Samsung’s efforts to ensure that everyone has a better, more sustainable tomorrow. Also, check out the Galaxy for the planet program here. By increasing our sustainability and minimizing our environmental and carbon impact, Samsung is dedicated to a greener future through purposeful innovations.
As a result, considerable investments were made to reduce our operations’ environmental effect, speed up the design and development of green technologies, implement circular economy ideas, and help guide consumers to make socially conscious decisions and thereby achieve friendly solutions.
The next galaxy unpacked will be worth it. Every new product launch of Samsung nowadays considers GHG emissions, even Samsung TVs come with a green sticker indicating that they are environmentally friendly. The motto for them is planetfirst.
Eco-conscious Products
The galaxy upcycling program offers new sustainability efforts. These sustainability efforts are in a product range across divisions. Samsung Electronics formed its corporate Eco-Council in 2008 and began holding regular meetings across the company’s many business areas to encourage the development of energy-efficient products.
The company’s numerous teams have managed to build products that enhance performance while minimizing energy consumption by sharing innovations that help cut energy consumption and follow eco-conscious trends.
The benefits of these collaborative efforts have been bolstered by company-wide efforts to manufacture extremely energy-efficient goods. At its virtual First Look event on January 6, Samsung Electronics unveiled its 2021 TV product portfolio, as well as the company’s latest long-term sustainability programs, which include the new initiative of inclusion of solar-cell-powered remote controls and the use of recycled materials to reduce product carbon footprints.
Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs in 2021 and also some audio products will include a new solar-cell-powered remote control that can be recharged by indoor or outdoor lights, as well as USB. Over the course of seven years of use, this innovation will help reduce the waste of about 99 million AA batteries.
Through the utilization of recycled plastics, Samsung is also working to minimize greenhouse gas emissions throughout the TV product’s lifetime in future generations. Samsung has been employing recycled materials in the back covers of monitors and signs for some time, and the firm now plans to use them in even more components across its visual display product line in additional efforts.
Samsung’s Visual Display Business aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25,000 tons annually through various efforts, including the expansion of its Eco-Packaging Design to all 2021 Lifestyle TVs and the majority of the NEO QLED line. This is equivalent to the absorption of greenhouse gases by 3.8 million 30-year-old pine trees over the course of a year. Galaxy for the planet is also achieving remarkable results.
Materials for production
Users can help safeguard the environment by using Galaxy devices on a daily basis. Since 2016, Samsung has incorporated polyketone, a substance that helps to reduce carbon monoxide (a greenhouse gas), in their Galaxy smartphone and tablet devices.
Part of Samsung has added Polyketone to the side key internal brackets of the Galaxy S21 series to lower the product’s carbon impact. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 smartphone has earned the Carbon Trust’s ‘Reducing CO2’ designation by adopting a minimum package design and modifying the materials used throughout the whole product lifespan – from production and distribution to usage and disposal. Such optimizations are beneficial for important business bases.
Noting that the Galaxy S21’s lower greenhouse gas emissions when compared to the prior model. Furthermore, since 2012, the business has lowered the standby power consumption of its flagship Galaxy smartphone chargers in order to combat power waste.
In the year afterward, the business has extended this environmentally aware upgrade to chargers throughout its entire product line, with the goal of reducing charger standby power use to zero. Samsung’s home appliances are still on a drive to lower their energy usage.
Dishwashers from Samsung are also energy-efficient. Senior Vice President was particularly proud that the DW80R9950UG and DW80R7060UG dishwasher models marketed in the United States were featured in Energy Star’s 2021 Most Efficient Dishwashers list in 2021, meeting the requirements of yearly energy use of less than 240 kWh and water use of fewer than 3.2 gallons per cycle for standard-sized models.
In comparison to a standard product, this amounts to a yearly energy savings of 67 kWh and a water savings of 387 gallons. Responsible consumption is not enough mentioned.
Sustainable future
The sustainable future of tech companies like Apple, Intel, or Samsung is very important. Many of those companies try to find a use for their old phones. In the semiconductor industry, the company has made impressive long-term development.
A total of nine major memory products have earned the Carbon Trust’s Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) certification: four DRAM solutions, three solid-state drives (SSDs), and two embedded storage (eStorage) devices. In addition, the 512GB eUFS 3.1 has been awarded the first Reducing CO2 label in the semiconductor industry.
Samsung has also worked toward sustainability in the development of packaging materials for Samsung mobile the Portable SSD T7 Touch, such as designing an environmentally friendly pulp material to replace plastic tray components.
The firm saved around 84 tons of carbon by utilizing one-third less tray packing, substituting plastic trays with environmentally friendly pulp material, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout its manufacturing process. However, there is also more climate action that can be taken.
Eco-Acknowledgements and Accolades recieved
The US Environmental Protection Agency has given the 2020 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award to six Samsung refrigerator models marketed in the United States (EPA). The EPA selects one or two breakthrough innovations for its Emerging Technology Award and also Medical devices award each year through its ENERGY STAR Program.
Six Samsung refrigerators with automotive led packages models were acknowledged in 2020 for meeting three demanding performance criteria: (1) super-efficient compressors; (2) low greenhouse gas blowing agents for their insulation; and (3) low greenhouse gas refrigerants.
Samsung digital inverter compressors consume roughly 30% less energy than single-speed induction motor compressors, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Two of our greatest risks are the greenhouse effect, which is produced by the rising worldwide use of fossil fuels, and climate change, which has been observed in recent years under poor environmental regulations.
In order to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the use of renewable energies, Samsung will continue to study the current climate change scenario and seek energy-efficient products and production methods. Years of usage are particularly important.
The corporation will also continue to pursue policies aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing resource consumption so that its customers may be comfortable that they are helping to combat climate change by purchasing goods that consume little power yet deliver excellent performance.
